Madras HC dismisses case against Dasavatharam

Chennai: Even before its release, Kamal Hassan starrer Dasavatharam has been plagued with controversies – first allegations of plagiarism were levelled against its makers, then eyebrows were raised over the dress that its actress Mallika Sherawat wore for its music launch.

And finally, president of the International Vaishnavadharama Samrakshana Sri Govinda Ramanuja Dasa filed a case against the producer, director and Censor Board objecting to scenes that portrayed alleged riots between Shaivites and Vaishnavites.

But on Thursday the Madras High Court dismissed the case against the film stating that the objections raised by the petitioner were “imaginary”.

“The court delivered a verdict on Thursday saying that this case has been filed on imaginary grounds without seeing the film. There is no prima facie evidence. The court observed that the title Dasavatharam is nobody's property, but a historical title and anybody can use it,” advocate for Oscar Films, R Shanmugham said.

The film is slated to hit theatres in the second week of June.
