Judge stuns court, complains against Minister

Chennai: Madras High Court judge R Reghupathi has said a union minister asked him to give bail to two men – a medical student and his doctor father – who have been accused by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of forging marksheets.

The judge stunned the court on Monday while hearing an anticipatory bail petition of S Kiruba Shridhar, a third-year MBBS student in a private medical college of Puducherry, and his father C Krishnamurthy.

Reghupathi threatened to complain to the Central Government and the Prime Minister about the union minister's interference. However, Reghupati did not name the union minister.

While hearing the bail petition, Reghupathi told the petitioner's counsel that he is not inclined to give any relief to the duo.

Reghupathi said unless an unconditional apology is tendered, he would incorporate the details in his order.

The judge also referred the case to Chief Justice HL Gokhale, requesting him to post the matter before another bench for orders.

Shridhar, who was failing in his exams for the past two years, joined hands with his father and allegedly replaced his answer-sheet to get extra marks in the subject. Later, he and his father were found by the CBI to be involved in the forging marksheets case.
