London: A terrorist suspect wanted for alleged involvement in the Madrid train bombings of March 2004 has been extradited to Spain, British police said on Thursday.
Syrian-born Moutaz Almallah Dabas, 39, had been handed over to Spanish police by officers from Scotland Yard's extradition unit and was returning to Spain on a private flight, Scotland Yard said.
Dabas was arrested at his home in Slough, Berkshire, west of London, in March 2005 after the Spanish authorities alleged that he gave assistance to a group of radical Muslims which included some of the Madrid bombers.
Last month, Britain's Law Lords, the highest appeal court, rejected arguments by Dabas' lawyers that the European arrest warrant under which he was detained in Britain was invalid.
A British district judge had earlier ruled that Dabas should be extradited on the grounds that he was allegedly responsible for providing support and accommodation in Madrid for Islamic terrorists.
The attacks on the Madrid commuter rail network March 11 2004 killed 191 people and wounded more than 1,500. Twenty-nine people are currently on trial in Madrid in connection with the bombings.
