Mumbai: In yet another development in the organ trade racket that was unearthed in Gurgaon, Interpol has taken note and issued red corner notices for the two main Indian ‘doctors’ believed to be behind hundreds of illegal kidney transplants.

Linda Chin Hoi, a Manipuri nurse and an associate of the alleged culprits Amit Kumar and Jeevan Rawat, continues be in the police custody.

A day ago, Linda revealed during interrogation that Amit and Jeevan were not even qualified to conduct surgeries. She said that they used to perform complicated surgeries even though they did not have MBBS degrees.

Investigators are now hoping she might provide some information on the missing links. The possibility of the involvement of more doctors is not being ruled out. A possible Mumbai link has also now emerged.

"In 2007, two Chhota Shakeel men tried to extort one crore rupees from Santosh Raut’s ex-wife, Sunita Raut. Those two men were arrested," Mumbai DCP Crime Deven Bharti says.

This racket seems to have been spread across more than eight states. In a joint operation the Gurgaon and Moradabad have arrested one Dr KK Agarwal in Alwar in Rajasthan in connection with the case. He is believed to have assisted Amit Kumar and Jeevan Rawat in performing more than 150 kidney transplants.

The UP police have sent investigation teams to Uttaranchal and Jammu and Kashmir as well. In Delhi, apart from Batra and Apollo Hospital, Focus Diagnostic Centre’s involvement in the case is also being probed.

Interpol is looking into a possible Canadian connection to the illegal organ trade. The police suspect that Amit Kumar is either in Canada or in Greece.
