Maha Assembly to reconvene after remaining paralysed over Ajit Pawar

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Assembly will reconvene on Monday after almost a week of not operating. Both Houses of the Assembly were adjourned on April 9 after the opposition created a ruckus over Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's 'urine' comment. The Lower House was adjourned after censure motion against Ajit Pawar was not accepted. The Upper House was adjourned after the opposition demanded resignation of Ajit Pawar post the lunch session.

Earlier, Ajit Pawar made a gaffe while referring to a farmer on hunger fast demanding water to be released in dams, by saying that the only way of releasing water in dams would be to urinate in them. The remarks drew sharp reactions from several parties.

Ajit Pawar has since then apologised twice for his statement. On Sunday, he even sat on a fast near the 'samadhi' of Maharashtra leader Yeshwantrao Chavan in Karad to express his repentance. But his efforts have cut little ice with the opposition, who is still expected to ask for his resignation on Monday when the Assembly reconvenes.
