New Delhi: Maharashtra PWD Minister Chhagan Bhujbal is in the midst of a fresh controversy.
A former Assistant Commissioner of with Mumbai police, Shankar Kamble told a Mumbai court on Thursday that Bhujbal asked him to go slow in a case related to the Sara Sahara Shopping complex.
The illegal complex is funded by underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.
Dawood's brother Iqbal Kaskar along with five other BMC officials are facing charges in the same case.
Kamble, the then investigating officer, told a court that tried to arrest BMC official Rajendra Wale but was prevented from doing so by the Home Minister himself.
CNN-IBN has copies of the court record. However Bhujbal has denied all charges.
“I have never tried to protect any offender. I have never helped the mafia at any time and I am ready to face any inquiry," Bhujbal told CNN-IBN.
What is Sara Sahara mall?
The complex stands on a plot of land owned by Central Public Works Department and was illegally built in connivance with municipal officials, according to police.
The Bombay High Court had earlier upheld the order of a lower court allowing demolition of illegal complex allegedly set up by the don.
The tenants of the complex filed an appeal in the Supreme Court which upheld the High Court order.
