New Delhi: In some relief for farmers of the Vidarbha region in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has announced a loan waiver for famers in the region.
The Government has waived farmer loans worth Rs 6208 crore in the area and these waivers are expected to benefit nearly 40 lakh farmers across Maharashtra.
These include dairy and poultry farmers.
All loans up to Rs 20,000 have been waived.
The move is particularly significant for farmers in drought-prone Vidarbha, which has witnessed a spate of farmer suicides over the last three years.
