Thiruvananthapuram: Film shooting in the Malayalam film industry continued despite the strike called by State Film Producers Association, as work on few films were to be completed on schedule before 'pack-up.' Shooting of around 12 films, for which the work was on, went on uninterrupted yesterday, Industry sources said.
The Producers Association, however, said the producers had only been given time for two days for finishing works and the decision to suspend production activities was still on. Action would be taken against producers who will continue with shooting after the prescribed time, the Association said in a statement. Apart from the increasing costs, the Association had also come out against the Exhibitors' decision not to screen Malayalam films.
Meanwhile, youth organisations of both Congress and CPI-M came out against the Exhibitors Association's decision not to show Malayalam films, citing government's reported action in cutting service tax on ticket rates as reason.
Exhibitors Association President Liberty Basheer said in a statement that the government was trying to cut service tax and increase ticket rates which was not acceptable.
Youth Congress activists had staged protests yesterday against screening of other-language films like the Shahrukh Khan starrer Ra.One, Tamil movies Velayudham and Ezham Arivu at many places in the state, while DYFI came out with a statement against the Exhibitors' move.
Kerala Cinema Minister K B Ganesh Kumar had said yesterday government had not received any strike notice from exhibitors.
