Kuala Lumpur: After spending a lot of money and efforts on developing golf properties, Malaysia has finally started to cash in on Golf tourism.

In the heart of Asia lies a land of many cultures, wonders and attractions. Malaysia is a bubbling, bustling melting pot of races and religions where Malays, Indians, Chinese and many other people live together.

It is also a land of fascinating extremes, where towering skyscrapers look down upon primitive long houses. But Malaysia is as much about golf as it is about Tourism. For a country with a total land area of only 330,000 sq km, Malaysia has an incredible number of almost 200 golf courses.

Arjun Atwal from India won his first truly global golf event - the Carlsberg Malaysian Open at the Mainz Golf Resort just a few years back. In fact most of the golf courses in Malaysia have been designed by golfing greats like Jack Nichlaus and Max Wexler.

The General Manager of Saujana Golf Resort says, "Obviously the food and beverage also enjoy the spin-off of that. Staying at our hotel one enjoys room avenues as well. So if you look at all the components that make up golf tourists from our standpoint - the golf, the hotel, the F&B, not to mention the ones outside our jurisdiction, the shopping, the money they spend in and out of the resort."

The country has finally started to cash in on Golf Tourism. Most of these courses are built as part of 5-star resorts and luxury clubs for the pleasure of the most discerning golfer.

Equipment is never a problem as there are a lot of sports shops which provide the best of golfing equipment and accessories, and all at reasonable prices.

Most courses offer night golfing so that visitors can golf all day and all night. And the country's perfect outdoor temperature with warm days and slightly cooler nights, clearly make Malaysia a marketable international golf tour destination.
