Malegaon (Maharashtra): The town of Malegaon was rocked by three blasts on September 8, 2006.

"The blast happened in a Muslim area. All the victims were Muslims and ironically all the accused were also Muslims. We fail to understand this logic by the police,” says Maulana, Abdul Hamid Ansari

Ansari’s is a voice that represents a community, which has been unable to fathom the fact that their own religious place were targeted by men who claim to follow their religion.

To express the agony of the Muslim community, the Jamat -e Islami is chalking out a plan of action for protests against the police on the eve of the first anniversary of the bombings.

The ripples are already being felt across town including the Hindu quarter. Community leaders are worried and their fear stems from the fact that the large scale protests being planned by the Muslims may just disrupt the uneasy calm that's prevailed since the blasts.

“During the festivals, both the sides pay more attention to the security than enjoying the festival,” says president, Vidhyarathi Sena, Vinod Wagh.

The police are also on tenterhooks.

"We have requested them not to carry out any protests. However, we have also made adequate police arrangements in case the situations turns volatile,” says Spl IG, Nasik Range, P K Jain.

But, in spite of the strong undercurrents and the uneasy calm that prevails in Malegaon, there is also an element of peaceful co-existence.
