Malegaon: Twenty-three-year old Anees Ahmad Kurashi has been bedridden ever since he fell victim to the blast at the Bada Kabirstan in Malegaon last year.

The bomb that killed 25 people left his body riddled with these splinters that come out like painful reminders each day.

“Even today the particles come out of my body. The doctors say it will take four to five years for me to get normal again,” says Anees.

For the last one year the Khurashi family has been fighting a tough battle. A battle that the family believes is losing with every new day.

Their only dream and mission now is to get the young man back on his feet once again.

Anees was the only earning member of this family of nine that includes a handicapped sister and ailing parents.

The one lakh rupees they got as compensation couldn't even cover Anees's treatment. The family is now on the verge of starvation.

“If there is daal then there is no roti. If there roti then there is no daal. I do not get sleep I the night as well,” says Abdul, Anees’s father.

And it is the same story one witnesses across Malegaon. Rizwan Ahmed once worked in a handloom. But his injuries have left him jobless.

“There is always a shortage of food. We have to remain hungry for one time of the day,” says Ruzwan.

In the next street Dastagir limps along with his crutch. The blasts deprived this daily wage earner not only of a leg but also of a livelihood.

I don't have any job to support me and my family,” says Dastagir.

Anees, Rizwan and Dastagir share the same tragic tales with 250 other families for whom life will never be the same.
