Malegaon: After Swami Aseemanand's confession, there was clamour in Malegaon for the release of the nine local youth arrested in the 2006 Malegaon blast case.

The family members of the youth say even if they are released, the scars of being targetted as the accused for years can never be erased.

Noorul Huda is one of the accused in Malegaon blast case and was arrested from Malegaon in the 2006.

His father and brother have suffered perhaps more than Noorul himself, who is behind bars for allegedly planning the terror attack which took away 31 lives.

Nooruddin, his younger brother could not continue studies due to lack of money.

"It is impossible to repair the damage," said Noorul's brother.

"My condition has worsened in last 10 years. My eyesight has weakened, I have got blood pressure and I have become so weak that I can't even stand up," said Noorul's father.

Even families of other accused have demanded a quick release of their relatives.

"Now it is transparent that these nine were not at fault so they should be released immediately," said Jaleel Ahmed, brother of one the blast accused.

"The government should compensate us and take action against the guilty officials," said Noorul's brother.

Apart from the pain and sufferings of the families of the accused, there is total absence of basic facilities and governance in Malegaon. Inspite of being a massive powerloom hub, people here said that their town is remembered only when there is a blast or a riot.

The government apathy continued despite the fact that Malegaon has over a lakh powerloom units, which produce one crore metres of cloth daily. Malegaon also has one of Asia's largest plastic recycling industries, but the state of education and health facilities is abysmal with not a single English medium school and a virtually non-functional government hospital.

"Government doesn't pay attention to Malegoan as it is an area dominated by the minority community...they just see it as a law and order problem," said Shishir Hiray, a Malegaon resident.

Infamous for its communal flare-ups, it seems, Malegaon has learnt from its past, with the last riot taking place around a decade ago. People in Malegaon now desperately want to catch-up with development.

"All Indians are brothers and everybody should be treated alike," said Noorul's father.
