Mamata fights, Singur on the boil

CNN-IBN

Kolkata: The battleground set against Tata Motor’s small car plant in Singur is getting aggravated, with the issue of farmland being given away to industry getting political hues in West Bengal.

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee hasn’t given up on Singur yet and has vowed to fight a pitched battle against Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.

On Sunday, Banerjee held a public rally, warning the Buddhadeb government against more land acquisition for the proposed SEZ in the area. Section 144 was imposed in Singur ahead of Mamata's rally on Monday.

After two-days of continuous violence between the police and villagers, the Hoogly district administration imposed prohibitory orders..

"Prohibitory orders have been re-imposed at Singur this morning," IGP (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia said.

He added that the prohibitory order would continue till February 14 since whenever prohibitory orders are withdrawn there have been incidents of violence.

Mamata will meet villagers and farmers who've been affected by the land acquisition policy of the Bengal government.

She will also meet the family members of Tapasi Mallick, the teenager who was found dead in mysterious circumstances at the TATA small car plant site.
