Kolkata: In a climbdown from her earlier stand, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that she had just appealed to the Centre for a tax moratorium, and not given any threat on the issue.
The Trinamool Congress chief accused the media of distorting her statement.
She further said that she would get her speeches taped from now on to avoid distortion of what she says.
"My state government will tape my speeches from now on because I am facing problems as a section of media is distorting what I am saying," said Mamata.
Meanwhile, the Congress has reached out to Mamata, saying she is an important ally.
Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said, "Mamata Banerjee is an important ally and will remain. These things do happen in coalition politics. I am sure the issues will be sorted out."
