Mamata to look in allegations of scam again

New Delhi: Railway Minister and UPA ally Mamata Banerjee has decided to give a green signal to investigations into an alleged land scam job involving jobs promised into Railways.

It was alleged that the then Railway Minister Lalu Prasad's close associates gave away or promised jobs into Railways in exchange for land.

But that has obviously heckled Lalu who seems to have concluded that the Mamata juggernaut is about to upset his apple cart.

"We respect you, please do maintain some respect for me too. I never said anything about your quotes. It is a continuous process that we respect each other's work," an obviously upset Mamata urged of her predecessor.

Government sometimes bring status papers or white papers to Parliament, Mamata argued.

Mamata Banerjee has appointed a panel to look into the allegations. She has asked the Railway Board to investigate.

"We had promised in Parliament that we will investigate the land for scam as demanded by MPs. That investigation is going on," Mamata said.

The RJD refused to comment on the matter but for the Congress, two warring allies mean more than bad news. It will also show the Prime Minister in poor light -- to have allowed the scam to have gone on under his nose.

"All allegations of misuse of power should be investigated. It is Mamata's prerogative if she has ordered investigations into the alleged land scam," says PCC member Anil Sharma.

The Mamata Lalu face off is far from over. The latest enquiry into Lalu's alleged landscam suggests Mamata is not going to let the matter rest.
