New Delhi: Trinamool Congress legislators on Thursday, unleashed violence in the West Bengal Assembly, pulling down mikes and upturning furniture, after party supremo Mamata Bannerjee was forcibly stopped on her way to Singur for a rally against a proposed Tata Motors car project.
A CPI-M MLA was seriously injured while two security personnel and as many media photographers also received injuries in the unprecedented incident.
The incident took place after Bannerjee, who was arrested by police earlier in the day for violating prohibitory orders near Singur, barged inside the Assembly premises.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Assembly Speaker Hasim Abdul Halim was considering stringent disciplinary action against the Trinamool Congress Legislators for resorting to unprecedented violence in the House.

Describing the day as the ''blackest'' day in the country's democratic movement, the Speaker said under no circumstances, damage to some priceless property of the House could be accepted.
With a view to allowing the general public to see for themselves the extent of damage done by some of their elected representatives, he had decided to keep the House door open for them for the next three days for eight long hours from Friday.

However, he said as a precautionary measure and to prevent recurrence of any such act of vandalism, he had decided to introduce 100 more special security personnel and 40 special security women force in the House from Friday itself.
West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee described as ''sheer act of vandalism'' Thursday's violence in the House and exuded confidence that the incident would have no bearing on the prospect of Tata Motors' small car unit in Singur.
He, however, made no issues about his government's determination to go ahead with its industrialisation programme and said more than 937 acre of acquired land would be handed over to Tata Motors within the next few days ''as per schedule''.
Bhattacharjee also clarified that the administration had no option but to impose the prohibitory orders under Section 144 CRPC in and around Singur from Thursday morning to avoid any eventuality keeping in view Thursday's simultaneous public meetings by both Trinamool Congress and the Krishak Sabha, the farmers' wing of the CPI-M.
|
He said when Mamata Bannerjee in spite of the prohibition wanted to enter Singur, she was prevented by the lady wing of the district police and taken back to Kolkata.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress protestors have torched several buses in the central part of Kolkata. Activists are also reported to have put up road blockades. Six people have been injured in violent protests in Kolkata.

The Trinamool Congress has been heading a campaign against the acquisition of farmland for setting up a Tata Motors automobile plant in Singur. The party has called a 12-hour shutdown on Friday.
Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhataacharjee condemning the incident said it was an expression of isolation and political violence of the Trinamool Congress. Bhattacharya has imposed Section 144 in Singur.
