Kolkata: Barely a week after a woman was allegedly raped by salespersons inside a shopping mall in Delhi, Kolkata also witnessed a crime involving salesman.
This time a salesman was caught trying to take pictures of a woman inside a trial room of an apparel store.
When a 34-year old woman visited the apparel store on Wednesday, little did she know what salesmen there were up to.
After entering the trial room to try out a new pair of jeans, she realised that a salesman was trying to take pictures with his cell phone while she was undressing.
The key accused and two others have been arrested.
"This particular age group – from say 18 to 22 – they are very much agile and are, sort of, prone to these sorts of things. Most probably this fellow also...he was not aware of the consequences of what he was going to do," said Kolkata Eastern Suburban Division Deputy Commissioner P S Ghosh.
Though the lady stopped the salesman from taking pictures, she alleged that she was molested by him in the presence of other employees of the store.
The shop at present is closed.
There's been a perceptible rise in cosmopolitanism in Kolkata over the last few years.
But the trend has also been associated with crimes, which were by and large, unfamiliar to the city even half a decade ago. Voyeurism in public places is one such.
And police aren't quite sure how to deal with such youngsters who aren't criminals in the strictest sense of the word.
