Mumbai: Air India Service Engineer, 40-year-old Tushar Waghmare married six women in two-and-a-half years by forging divorce documents and showing them to prospective brides. He used the popular matrimonial website shaadi.com to invite alliances.
His party ended though on August 18 when he was arrested by the Navghar Police after one of his wives filed a complaint against him. Police have documents confirming six marriages, but reports suggest there could be more.
Senior Police Inspector, Navghar Police Station, Vijay Raut says, "As he had a good salary and good job, the girls' families didn't do a background check. There were two or three people in pictures who he introduced as family. We plan to arrest them too."
Waghmare though says he took care of all the women and has defended his actions.
"I didn't marry so many times. My mother was suffering from AIDS and she died all alone, so I married twice or thrice because I want to open an old age home. I married but I also took care of them. I didn't just leave them," says he.
Police have charged Waghmare with forgery and cheating. He's now been remanded to police custody till August 29 and has been suspended by Air India.
