Man hit by car in Noida, left to die on road

New Delhi: In a grim reminder of just how dangerous India’s suburbs have become, a hit-and-run case was reported from in Noida’s sector 22.

Just after 11 pm on Saturday, 23-year-old Lal Mohan Singh, a mechanic from Ghaziabad, was hit by a speeding car at the traffic junction of sector 22 and 23.

Lal Mohan was then dragged 300 m before the driver of the car realised. He then left the injured man on road and fled.

He was later taken to Kailash Hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

Car driver Avneesh Yadav was arrested hours later and told police that he may have hit Mohan while overtaking a truck. "It was around 11:30 pm when I was trying to overtake a truck. The truck driver applied emergency brakes and I don't remember what happened after that," said Yadav.
