New Delhi: The 23-year-old man who was impaled by an iron rod in Delhi has been discharged from the AIIMS trauma centre after two-weeks of intensive care.

It took three-weeks and a complicated surgery to heal the hole made in his body. However, the good news is that Supratim Dutta is now out of hospital.

“Due to God's grace and prayers of millions of people, I am feeling much better today,” says Supratim Dutta.

Supratim has become an icon of courage in the face of adversity. A five-feet long, two-inch wide iron rod pierced through Supratim's body when his cab hit a road barricade.

The rod first pierced the car bonnet, then the dashboard and finally went through him. For the next hour and a half, nailed to the car, he kept calling family and friends for help.

However, now he has a word of advice for tough times. “One must never give up,” says Supratim.

His father Sukumar Dutta, still shudders at the thought of what his son has gone through. And, Supratim's courage has found many admirers among the doctors too.

“He was very cooperative, intelligent and he has shown tremendous character,” says Asst Prof of Surgery, Dr Biplab Mishra.

Supratim has left the hospital with a long list of do’s and don’ts from the doctors. Meanwhile, the unique medical case has found mention in the New England Journal of Medicine and Ripley's Believe it or Not.
