Man nabbed for spreading Karunakaran death rumours

Kannur (Kerala): A Kerala youth has been arrested for sending SMS messages saying that veteran Congress leader K Karunakaran had died.

Subair, 24, who was arrested from Thaliparamba near here sent the messages to 89 people, police said. When he learnt that police was investigating the issue, he sent out another round of messages announcing the 'rebirth' of the ailing Congress leader.

He was nabbed following a complaint from a local Congress leader. He told the police that his friends had sent the SMS messages from his phone and he came to know about it only later.

On September 1, the former chief minister was taken in an air ambulance to the Christian Medical College in Vellore for treatment. Karunakaran, who touched 90 in July this year, had been hospitalised for several weeks before going to Vellore.
