Man ready to surrender, UP cops gun him down

New Delhi: A dramatic video from Allahahad shows an encounter that took place in September 2006. The shocking video shows a man being shot in cold blood by the Allahabad Police.

The police say that the man, Pintu Mishra, hurled a bomb that killed a constable after which the police chased him and shot him dead.

However, in the video it seems as if Pintu is trying to surrender, but the police start shooting at him.

Unfortunately the bomb is not seen clearly in the video and this raises doubts about the police version of events.

Uttar Pradesh DGP, Vikram Singh, has said action would be taken against the culprit within a month.

"Police officials have zero tolerance to human rights violation. Whosoever it is, the punishment for any crime would be same. Since the tape is dated a year ago, so I cannot comment on the issue," he said.

He added that a case under section 302(murder) of the IPC would be initiated against the police officials in question.

The Mayawati government has taken up the matter very seriously and an enquiry would be set up, where the decision will be given within the time period of 30 days.

National Human Rights Commission Chairman, Justice Rajendra Babu in Bangalore was quoted by PTI as saying that the commission would take the "strongest possible action" in this matter.
