New Delhi: A guest house owner in Rajasthan has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a British tourist.
The fast track court in Udaipur passed the judgement against Prabat Singh of Pardesi guest house on Wednesday.
He was arrested earlier this year for raping a British journalist staying in his guest house.
Singh assaulted her when the tourist knocked on his door to demand an extra blanket at night.
The tourist then lodged an FIR at the Ambamata police station with intervention from the British High Commission in the country. The High Commission had pursued the case on an e-mail complaint from the woman.
The chargesheet in the case was filed before the court on January 14,2008 and the court after hearing the prosecution, the defence and 14 witnesses convicted Parbat Singh.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 35,000 on him.
