Mumbai: In a shocking incident in Mumbai a 40-year-old woman was shot six times by her younger brother on Saturday night in the upmarket locality of Cuffe Parade. She's struggling for survival.
Chalk markings on the ground show the spots where the police recovered the some of the cartridges fired by Lalit D'souza at his 40-year-old sister Lorena.
And the reason for the deadly attack?
And acquaintance of the family Hussain says, “There was a court case which had been going on between them for many years."
But the immediate provocation for the firing in the parking lot of this building in the posh neighborhood of Cuffe Parade is even more shocking.
Mumbai Zone 1 DCP Brijesh Singh says, "There was a fight over parking that became heated."
While his sister was rushed to the Bombay Hospital at 1500 hrs, IST the brother decided to surrender himself.
"He came in the morning and surrendered himself," Singh adds.
The D'Souza family owns six restaurants and hotels in Mumbai and it was perhaps the desire to get the lion's share of the family's wealth that drove Lalit to this extreme step but Lorena may just survive this ghastly attack.
Bombay Hospital CMO Ashish Tripathi says, “Her vital s are now getting stable but she had six bullets in her body. We removed two of the superficial ones but four are still inside including one deep inside the stomach."
As the 40-year-old woman fights death and her brother faces a court trial, the gates of the Sainara building remain shut to outsiders cloaking this tragic incident in mystery.
