Man sues God!

CNN

Omaha (USA): A Nebraska state senator is gaining quite a bit of attention with a lawsuit he has filed. Earnie Chambers is suing God.

“It's not a lawsuit against religion. It's a lawsuit against a defendant that has perpetrated much harm and damage on the human race,” he says.

Apart from other things, Chambers also accuses God of directly or proximately causing floods, earthquakes, tornados, birth defects and the like.

“In order for the public to really see it, it's helped that there was an incident that a lawsuit that could be considered truly frivolous and without merit was fired,” he says.

Chambers says that has happened recently when Terry Bowen filed a lawsuit against Lancaster county district judge Jeffre Cheuvront.

Cheavront refused to let Bowen use the word "rape" and "victim" in the trial of a man accused of sexually assaulting her.

Chambers considers that lawsuit frivolous, but says Bowen still has the right to file it.

“Since the Constitution says that doors of the courthouse must remain open, you can not prohibit the filing of lawsuits,” he says.

In a statement to his unicameral peers, Chambers says the lawsuit is a response to the numerous strange lawsuits brought by conservatives and the religious right to hawk their particular brand of bigotry and zealotry.

“I wanted to laugh, but it's going to be kind of tough to get God to obey a court. Since he is the Almighty,” says another senator Tom White.

Tom White disagrees that Bowen's lawsuit was frivolous, but agrees with chambers and says lawsuits should not be limited.

He makes a good point that the court should always be open to any dispute.
