Ahmedabad: The 82-year old Prahlad Jani claims he has lived without food or water for the last 65 years. Jani's incredible story has prompted a team of scientists to do a study on him. The team comprises top doctors from the Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (DIPAS)
"If we understand this phenomenon, we can work out strategies to tell people how to survive without food and water," said Director DIPAS Dr G Ilavazhagam.
Prahlad Jani, who is also called Mataji, says he survives on energy that he is able to generate within himself. The team of 35 doctors has so far found no rational or scientific explanation. But they do have admitted that they are puzzled.
"He is able to generate urine in his bladder. And at his will, he is able to re-circulate in his body. This is exceptional in the medical world,” said Dr Sudhair Shah
"It certainly makes us intrigued that the yogic ‘Kriyas’ that he does apparently can help us to control our physiological functions," Director Shristi Professor Anil Gupta.
The institute is keen on unlocking the mystery because, if true, it could help soldiers survive in hostile environments. But most scientists may tend to take this study with a pinch of salt.
