New Delhi: He is not just another tourist traveling to India, looking for calm in the midst of chaos.

Genady Shlomper, is a Hindi teacher who lives is Israel and has visited India for the second time with is first visit being 30 years ago.

“I live in Israel and I teach Hindi in Tel Aviv Mahavidyalay and Jerusalem Vishwavidyalaya,” says Schlom-pair.

Born in Uzbekistan, Shlomper moved to Moscow where he did his MA to teach Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi. But circumstances forced him and many other Jews out of the country and soon Israel became his home.

For years now, Shlomper has been teaching Hindi to Israeli students.

“I have known about India through books, films and songs and not through living people,” says Shlomper.

Shlomper plans to travel to Agra, Lucknow and maybe Varanasi discovering the very country he has known for years.

So Russian by birth, Israeli by nationality and Indian at heart, this teacher of Hindi has carved for himself an identity that stretches across borders.
