New Delhi: There was high drama at a press conference held by Baba Ramdev on Saturday at the Constitution Club in New Delhi. A man tried to throw black ink on Baba Ramdev while he was addressing a press conference on black money.

The man, identified as Kamran Yunus Siddiqui, was restrained by Ramdev's supporters and badly beaten up before the police arrested him. Kamran has been taken to the Parliament Police Station.

"Kamran wanted to ask a question on Prashant Bhushan's statement on Kashmir, which Baba Ramdev refused to answer. The attack was not preplanned. What Kamran did was wrong, but Baba Ramdev's supporters shouldn't have taken law into their hands. They broke his nose and teeth. Ramdev misleading the nation. He himself has money stashed abroad," alleged Kamran's brother Mohammad Yunus Siddiqui.

Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare condemned the incident, saying that the man who threw ink on Ramdev tried to blacken the entire democracy, and not just the yoga guru.

He further said that the Team Anna was fully behind Ramdev in his fight against corruption.

Ramdev had earlier announced that he would campaign against corruption and black money while targeting the Congress in the five states where Assembly elections are being held.

Ramdev said that such attempts will not deter him from going ahead with his campaign.

"I will continue our fight against corruption and black money. These attempts will not affect me. I got black ink for asking to bring black money back. My life is devoted to wellness of the people. The blank ink doesn't affect me. Whoever fights for truth, has to pay the price for it," he said.

Congress spokesperson condemned the attack and said the Government was trying to tackle the black money menace.

"Whatever happened is unfortunate. If anybody has done wrong, we condemn it. Ramdev has a right to oppose Congress. It doesn't make any difference at all. As far as black money is concerned, we have done our best. It's a serious issue," said Alvi.

Congress leader Digvijaya Singh denied his party's hand in the incident.

"I see a conspiracy behind this to incite communal tension. Identity of this person should be investigated," said Singh.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also demanded a through probe into the ink throwing incident.

"People do such things for cheap publicity. Police should investigate this incident. Baba Ramdev is fighting against corruption and raising issue of black money," said BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy.

Anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare's associate Manish Sisodia said the entire incident was planned to divert attention from the black money issue.

"The people Baba Ramdev is targeting, the ones involved in corruption, who have black money stashed abroad, are behind this. This is being done to divert attention from the main issue," said Sisodia.
