New Delhi: Former Jharkhand Ranji Trophy player Santosh Lal, who was India captain MS Dhoni's childhood friend and also taught him how to play the now famous 'helicopter' shot, died of pancreatitis on Wednesday.
Lal, only 29, was admitted to Ranchi's Guru Nanak Hospital on July 12 and later shifted to Delhi after his condition worsened. His body will be flown back to Ranchi on Wednesday evening after an autopsy at the Lady Hardinge Hospital.
After hearing about Lal's illness earlier, Dhoni had assured his family of all help in his treatment. Lal worked for the Indian Railways.
Lal taught the 'helicopter' shot to Dhoni during the league games in Ranchi and Bihar when the two used to play together in the local tournaments.
