Mangalore (Karnataka): The Karnataka cabinet is holding an emergency meeting on Saturday, following Friday's violence in Mangalore in which 50 people were injured.
Karnataka Home Minister M P Prakash has named Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Shri Rama Sena responsible for the overnight violence in Mangalore.
He also said that radical fundamentalists from both the Bajrang Dal and Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) are responsible for the violence.
"I am not against the BJP, they are my coalition partners. I am only saying that organisations such as the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and some of the fundamentalist organisations of the Muslim community are behind this incident," he said.
Prakash confirmed reports that a person was stabbed to death on Friday night.
Curfew has been was imposed in Mangalore and shoot at sight orders have been issued.
The police have arrested 180 people and detained 127 more, he added.
Karnataka DGP, B S Sial said that medical teams are working overtime to take care of those injured in the clash.
He said that 33 platoons of KSRP, 13 platoons of District Armed Reserve Police, three companies of RAF and CRPF each have been deployed in Mangalore.
"Around 5,000 policemen are patrolling the streets. We will not spare anybody who was involved in the incident," he added.
He also said that Mangalore is a very sensitive area and the level of religious tolerance in Mangalore has gone down.
However, he added that since the situation was easing slowly but surely, the curfew could be lifted for an hour or so on Sunday so people could go out and buy essential commodities.
Trouble began on Froday evening, when Bajrang Dal activists stopped a truck-load of cows being taken to the slaughter-house in Mangalore.
An altercation between Bajrang Dal activists and Muslims followed and led to the clash.
The situation turned so grim that additional police force had to be deployed to bring things under control.
Earlier, a two-day curfew has been imposed in Ullal, Konaji and in the rural outskirts of Mangalore where the mob went on a rampage and assaulted innocent pedestrians, hurled bottles and stones at places of worship.
