KOLAR: A private mango selling unit has been started near the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) for the benefit of mango growers, said State Agriculture Market director C Somashekar.
Chairing a meeting of the Mango Growers Association members and the mandi agents held at the Deputy Commissioner office here on Tuesday, he said the government was committed to protect the interest of the mango growers.
A grievances unit would be set up at the Srinivasapur APMC, where an additional director, assistance and officials of the Agriculture Department would be deployed.
A shed would be set up where the farmers can stay overnight for marketing purposes, he said.
A sum of Rs 5 lakh had been released for development and Rs 85 lakh for asphalting of roads in the APMC yard, he said.
