New Delhi: When Manmohan Singh stands up in Parliament on Wednesday to defend his joint statement with Pakistan's Gillani in Egypt, he can expect no help from Pakistan. Rather, Islamabad is turning up the heat on Manmohan's Balochistan bungle.
Pakistan's Interior Minister plays up the happening to the advantage of Pakistan. "The issue of Balochistan featuring in the joint communique is a reflection of truth. If it was not preying on the minds of the Indian delegates, it could not have made it to the statement," said Rehman Malik.
Others have taken his cue. Pakistan's Army Chief Gen Kayani told US military commanders India should stop "messing around" in Balochistan. The foreign office claimed three Indians had been arrested in Balochistan, describing them as "India's Ajmal Kasabs."
Bureau Chief, Geo TV Hamid Mir said, "Pakistan has enough and that is why I think the Indian Prime Minister accepted the word Balochsitan in the joint statement."
Speaking to CNN IBN Baloch leader in exile Suleiman Khan rubbished Pakistan's claim.
"Pakistan wants to show the international world that India is involved in Balochistan. But as far as involvement of India goes, we have never seen that," Khan said.
But that denial will prove cold comfort to the Indian government under fire at home and from Pakistan.
Pakistan's plan:
- Pakistan is elevating India's spy agency RAW to the same status as the ISI, accusing it of being involved in terrorism like its Pakistani counterpart.
- They are also demanding information on Indian nationals arrested for the Mumbai attacks.
- Islamabad has refused to probe the links of Ajmal Kasab inside Pakistan since he is a non state actor.
- Islamabad also refuses to take any action against Lashkar chief Hafiz Sayeed.
Islamabad has hinted that it has gone as far as it could in accommodating India. The writing on the wall is - thus far and no farther.
This could also could spell the end of the road as far as bringing the perpetrators of 26/11 to justice.
