Lalgarh(West Bengal): West Bengal is on the boil with Maoists unleashing red rage in the red bastion with even the state administration forced to watch from the sidelines.
Lalgarh in West Midnapore district is no longer controlled by the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), instead it has been taken over by the radical Left.
The Maoists have dug deep in here with trenches and roadblocks. They have cut total access to the place with not even the police not dare to go inside.
Tribals backing the Maoists have put up a three-tier human shield to prevent paramilitary forces to take back control of the area.
A couple, Gouri and Dibyendu Maity, have been digging up roads every morning. The duo is part of the local resistance group formed with support from the Maoists.
"We will not let the CRPF enter our villages. We are ready to sacrifice our family members for that," says Dibyendu Maity.
Inside Lalgarh, Maoists are patrolling with AK-47 rifles day and night.
They demolished yet another CPI-M party office on Wednesday and shot dead three local CPI-M leaders, throwing an open challenge to West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and his administration
"Budhadeb will not be able to stop our movement. He does not have the power to do it. We are ready to face the consequences," says local resistance group leader Chatradhar Mahato.
Lalgarh has forced the Left Front government in West Bengal on the backfoot.
Bracing from a humiliating loss in the Lok Sabha elections, the CPI-M leaders do not want to use violence once again. They fear that if that happens, then Lalgarh can turn into another Nandigram.
