New Delhi: FC Barcelona striker Lionel Messi affirmed that designating Diego Maradona as the coach of the Argentine national team "won't be a problem" for him, on the contrary it could benefit him.
Lionel Messi was criticised by Diego Maradona, for his "individualism" in recent outings with the Argentine national team, but the Barcelona superstar denied claims that it could be a problem in the future, because he doesn't feel he is a selfish player.
"They are things that are said in the moment. I know Diego appreciates me, and I don't hold a grudge", he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
Messi explained he takes this as constructive criticism, and he admitted he is an "individualist who works for the team", and his former coaches Alfio Basile, Frank Rijkaard and Pep Guardiola all accepted this.
The 21-year-old continued, Maradona is "a legend" and he admires him "for everything he has given to Argentine football" over the years.
In relation to the future of Los Albicelestes Messi is very optimistic, because the generation of players incorporated into the team won the Olympic Games gold medal in Beijing earlier in the year.
"I am optimistic. The generation who won the Olympic Games is up and coming", concluded the Argentine international, and candidate for the Ballon d'Or.
