>New Delhi: Union minister Dayanidhi Maran's absence from Friday's grand public function to celebrate Karunanidhi's golden jubilee didn't go unnoticed.
Dayanidhi Maran - a key member of the 'Kalaiynar' family - was not present in the Assembly on Friday evening too, when the Governor S S Barnala and leaders of the ruling DPA alliance felicitated him.
However, Maran was present at the airport to receive the Prime Minister and the Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
The fallout of Tamil Nadu's dynastic politics was on an ugly display in Madurai last Wednesday when Tamil daily Dinakaran's office was targeted by supporters of Chief Minister Karunanidhi's elder son M K Azhagiri.
The newspaper’s fault: it published an opinion poll on who should succeed the DMK supremo as the state chief minister.
While Azhagiri scored a mere two per cent, his younger brother and heir apparent M K Stalin got 70 per cent of the vote share.
Apparently miffed at the findings of the poll, a group of persons claiming Azhagiri supporters attacked the newspaper's office and set it on fire.
Three people were killed in the incident.
A legal notice was served to Sun TV Managing Director Kalanidhi Maran by Azhagiri, who had threatened to sue him if his Sun TV network did not stop blaming him.
