Mumbai: Even as the locals versus outsiders stand off rages on in Maharashtra, there are families which have embraced the very factors that set divisions for many.
Celebrated legendary filmmaker V Shantaram's grandson Rahul Shantaram is wedded to a Bihari girl named Anita. The duo were seen at Mumbai's Shivaji Park, taking part in the Chhath Puja festivities which are seen as a Bihari festival.
There were elaborate preparations at the Shantaram residence for the celebrations.
"We are now going to the Shivaji Park beach to make the offerings, " said Rahul.
As people thronged the Juhu beach to make their offerings to the Sun God, the Shantarams joined in the fanfare. A north Indian married into a Maharashtrian household, Anita says its all about mutual respect.
"I have been welcomed in a Marathi family and I have done all their festivals. Now I have asked them to do mine," said Anita, an academician.
Rahul happy conceded saying, "Its all about co existence."
As Anita waits for the sun to set as she makes her offerings to the Sun god, there is a sense of harmony that prevails between the duo.
While a Marathi family celebrates a Bihari festival it seems nothing's lost and there's still hope.
