Mumbai: Kannada actress Maria Monica Susairaj has been named the prime accused in the Neeraj Grover murder case.

The Mumbai Crime branch have now charged Susairaj of planning the gruesome murder along with her boyfriend Sub Lieutenant Jerome Mathew with the objective of extracting revenge on Grover for not keeping his word and helping her secure a meaty television role.

Television starlet Maria Susairaj, along with her boyfriend, Jerome Matthew, was earlier accused of murdering and then brutally chopping up the body of 25-year-old media producer, Neeraj Grover.

However, in less than a month, Maria Susairaj has gone from being a mere accomplice to the prime accused and the main conspirator in the murder case.

Meanwhile, the new twist in the murder case raises several doubts.

If indeed the murder was planned, then the question is why Susairaj purchased the bags and the butcher's knife after the murder.

The car used to dispose off Neeraj's body was not arranged beforehand. And the motive itself is doubtful, as Susairaj was indeed short listed for a role in a plum TV project, something she managed only because of Neeraj.

There seems to be a good degree of planning as far as disposal of the body is concerned but legal experts feel that the police will now have to work harder to prove the conspiracy theory in the murder itself.

"The investigation has to be of a very high standard, very carefully done. They need to gather circumstantial evidence of what happened before and after the murder because they have no eye-witness,” says noted criminal lawyer, Majid Memon.

Meanwhile, Maria’s bail application is expected to come up in court on June 17, where she will plead to be a victim of circumstances and fear rather than a conspirator.
