Market opens with moderate gains

New Delhi: The markets opened on Tuesday with moderate gains in line with its Asian peers. At 0956 hrs, IST the Sensex rose by over 66 points in early trade and was at 12951 and Nifty was up 10 points at 3745.

Major gainers in the opening trade were Maruti, Reliance, Hindalco, Rel Comm and Bharti.

Stock brokers said overnight gains on US markets, mainly triggered buying in select blue-chip stocks.

The major gainers were Reliance Industries, Reliance Energy, State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Infosys Technologies, Satyam Computers and TCS.

However, Aban Offshore stocks tumbled nearly 4 per cent after reports that Reliance Industries terminated contract with the company.

Asian stocks were mixed in early trading on Tuesday, Japan's Nikkei plunged 0.34 per cent or 59.61 points at 17,233.78, Singapore's Straits Times was down 0.40 per cent or 12.79 points at 3,169.89 and South Korea's Seoul Composite slipped 0.12 per cent or 1.637 points at 1,439.66.

However, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted gained 0.65 per cent or 49.21 points at 7,678.36.
