Mkts end in red; Sensex sheds 96 points

Mumbai: The markets were trading weak throughout the day and further slipped downwards during the final hour on account of increased selling pressure. The Sensex closed at 11407 down 96 points and the Nifty closed at 3336 down 29 points.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 5,748.18 down 78 points or 1.3 per cent.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 4,759.37, down 54 points or 1.1 per cent.

The BSE sectoral closed in red. The BSE Metal Index gained 1.6 per cent at 8,083.76. Jindal Saw, Guj NRE Coke, Sterlite Ind, Jindal Steel and SAIL witnessed selling pressure.

The BSE FMCG Index lost 1.4 per cent 1,950.65. Colgate, Tata Tea and Shaw Wallace plunged closed in negative terrain.

The BSE Auto Index lost 1.4 per cent at 4,879.75. Hind Motors, Mah and Mah, Apollo Tyres, TVS Motor and Bharat Forge slipped on the bourses.

The BSE Health Care Index was down 1.2 per cent at 3,474.83. Biocon, Wockhardt, Orchid Chemical, Ipca Labs and Nicholas Pirama closed lower.

The BSE Bankex was lost 1 per cent at 5,143.08. IOB, Bank of India, Vijaya Bank, PNB, Union Bank, Kotak Mahindra moved downwards.

The BSE IT Index lost 0.65 per cent at 4,205.93. Hexaware Tech, Infosys, Moser Baer, HCL Tech and I-Flex Solution closed in red.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index lost 0.4 per cent at 5,421.86. Petronet LNG, HPCL, Kochi Refin, BPCL declined on the bourses.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was lost 0.53 per cent at 7,655.09. Thermax, KEC Infrastruct, HEG, Bharat Elec, Lakshmi Machine closed lower.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 5960.46 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 20544 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 2984.68 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 29489.14 crore.
