New Delhi: After a series stand-offs between the management and employees, sources say that Maruti Suzuki India may be shifting base out of Gurgaon.
Sources have confirmed to CNN-IBN that India's largest automaker is looking at Gujarat as their new location citing the recent spate of strikes in their Gurgaon plant as the reason.
They said that the Maruti Suzuki Board is meeting on October 29 to take a decision in this regard.
They added that Maruti officials met Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in August and September to identify the land and iron out other details.
Maruti's car production plans have been hit after two crippling labour agitations. Its market share is down to 43 per cent from the previous 55 per cent, with its stocks having a tumultuous run at Dalal Street.
Incidentally, Gujarat is being tipped as the next Detroit of India with Ford, Tata, Peugeot and GM already having set their base in the state .
Maruti currently manufactures all its products in Gurgaon and Manesar in Haryana.
