New Delhi: Falling car sales have forced Maruti Udyog to shut down its Gurgaon and Manesar plants for a day on June 7. Maruti will shut down production at the two plants as demand for diesel cars falls, said sources.
This is the first time Maruti will shut down its diesel car production at Manesar. The company says it needs to reduce its inventory levels. In March this year, Maruti had shut its petrol car plants for a day.
The company had clocked a 14 per cent fall in sales in May. Sales have infact been down for the past four months. Maruti will also order its bi-annual maintenance shut down this month between June 17 and 22 at all its facilities.
Maruti has been producing about 5,000 units per day from its Gurgaon and Manesar plants. The company at present has a total installed annual capacity of about 15 lakh units, which will go up to 17.5 lakh units by September this year when its third unit at Manesar goes onstream.
