New Delhi: Latha Ramanjaneyalu is distraught. Her daughter Divya was one among the four girls who entered into a suicide pact, in Bangalore on Saturday.
"I don't know why she did this. I got to know by 3 pm,” says Latha.
Divya and two of her friends Ammu and Jayanthi dies after consuming poison while the fourth girl Hamasaveni is still fighting for her life in the city’s Victoria Hospital.
"They had taken around 10-11 tablets along with bed-bug poison. They were gasping for breath,” says Casualty Ward Doctor, Victoria Hospital, Dr Ravindra.
All the four girls were 10 standard students at the Bapuji Memorial School. The reason why they decided to kill themselves still remains a mystery. According to the police the girls have not given any explanation in their suicide note. It just says - "We are not in love with anyone. No one has cheated us. We wish to be together in death. We are dying with mutual consent.”
The teachers and parents of the four girls are baffled.
"They used to study well, there were no academic issues. We were expecting a distinction from them. I don't know why this happened,” says Headmaster, Nagaraja Memorial High school, T V Sudhakhar.
But all four of them belong to not so well-to-do families. While Divya's father is a watchman, Ammu's father works in a silk factory. And many suspect the girls may have taken this extreme step, because they were convinced their families couldn't afford to pay for their higher studies.
