Mathura: A fight over the usage of water kept in front of a religious place turned into a full-blown fight between two groups in the Kosi Kalan town near Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. The resulting violence led to the death of four people and left 16 others injured. Over 100 houses were gutted in the arson that followed.
The incident took place at around 1:30 pm and resulting violence continued till late evening.
"The area is peaceful now. Situation escalated after some outsiders came in with rifles and took law in their own hand," ADG, Law and Order, UP Police said.
The entire area is under curfew and flag marches are taking place across the town. Police and armed forces have been brought in from nearby areas.
With four battalions of rapid action force and eight battalions of PAC, the entire area has turned into a fortress. Calm has returned to the town but the need of the hour is to restore faith in the system, so that even when the forces leave peace and harmony continue to remain Kosi Kalan town.
