Matthew Wade doubtful for third Test after ankle injury

New Delhi: Australian wicketkeeper Matthew Wade, who suffered cheek fracture before the second Test, has now sprained the ankle playing basketball during a day off on Saturday ahead of the third Test at Mohali. The 25-year-old will get the scans done on Sunday to determine the enormity of his injury.

"Matt Wade sprained his right ankle playing basketball yesterday afternoon," Australian team physio Alex Kountouris was quoted as saying by the Australian media. "His ankle is subsequently swollen and painful so will have a scan this morning to help determine the extent of the injury and how we manage it. He will not take part in today's training session," he added.

Wade was hit in the cheek while batting in the nets before the second Test in Hyderabad but decided to play the match and cracked a fine half-century in the first innings. The visitors do not have a back-up wicketkeeper on tour and if Wade will be ruled out of the third Test, the veteran gloveman Brad Haddin is likely to be called from Australia.

Australia are trailing 0-2 in the four-Test series having suffered crushing defeats at Chennai and Hyderabad. The third Test starts from March 14, 2013.
