New Delhi: After seven long years, the fight for justice has begun again. Priyadarshini Mattoo's father Chaman Lal Mattoo has asked the media to help nail the culprit who allegedly killed his daughter.
“I have already said nothing short of retrial should be held in this case. It will assuage our feelings and the culprit will come to justice,” said Mattoo.
He said that by mass support he meant a wake-up call to the investigating agency and the department of justice and those who were interested in seeing this case being brought to justice.
“I have complete faith in the judicial system in India. It is the fourth pillar of our constitution. But a speedy trial is not enough. I want a retrial and then a speedy trial,” Mattoo emphasised.
The voice of Priyadarshini who was raped and murdered 10 years ago, will reach hundreds of people this year on her 34th birth anniversary - July 23.
Priyadarshini's alleged killer, Santosh Yadav, was let off for lack of evidence in 1999.
However, 10 years later in 2006, the movement for justice gathered momentum - especially in the wake of model Jessica Lall's murder verdict where the accused were let off for the same reason - lack of evidence against them.
On July 23, 2006, a group of youngsters are all set to give people another reminder of the struggle for justice by Priyadarshini's family.
The group - called Justice for Priyadarshini - will hold candlelight processions across the nation and musical events in an effort at a protest movement to seek justice for her.
