Notice to Congress for illegal construction

New Delhi: In yet another face off between the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and the Congress, the UP government has stopped the construction of a hostel cum guest house in Rae Bareli. It is Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s constituency.

The Rae Bareli Development Authority has served a notice to the Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust for illegal construction.

According to the notice - the owner of the Rae Bareli Charitable Trust is constructing this building without any clearance from the development authority. A case has been registered against the members of the trust.

Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust began construction work on this site three months ago.

A women's hostel and a three bedroom guest house for Congress leaders was planned on this 1400 sq metre plot. But the Congress alleges that the construction was stopped by the development authority following instructions from the Mayawati government.

“Mayawati is trying to block every development work undertaken by the Congress party,” says Congress District president, Rae Bareli Uma Shankar Mishra.

This is not the first time Mayawati has taken on Sonia Gandhi. Earlier the UP government had denied permission for the construction of a Rail coach factory in the city.

With the Lok Sabha elections around the corner, the battle between the UP Chief Minister and UPA president is only likely to intensify.
