New Delhi: BSP chief Mayawati has launched a campaign against the Congress party and against Rahul Gandhi in particular.
Apart from the aftertaste of her party's poor poll show, it's the Congress' latest plans in Uttar Pradesh that have made the BSP chief uncomfortable.
Every year on June 19, Rahul Gandhi's birthday, Congress puts up a massive show of strength.
Congress Activist Akhilesh Pratap Singh said, “Rahulji's birthday will be celebrated as social harmony day. Every poor man will be given time, we will go among their huts, spend time with them, eat with them, share their joys and sorrows.”
In response, Mayawati has declared June 19 as 'Shame Day'.
The BSP will hold a rally against caste system and to awaken people against BJP and Congress.
BSP workers will hold demonstrations in party offices across the state.
In a statement, she said Rahul's mingling with the Dalits was a sham.
Going a step further, she said this was a sham Mahatma Gandhi put up his entire life.
This stand against the Mahatma will not be taken lightly by most people in the country.
BJP Activist Hridaynarayan Dikshit said, “Mayawati celebrated her birthday for notes, and he (Rahul Gandhi) for votes. Neither of them have the Dalits in mind. But Mahatma Gandhi is the father of the nation. Statements against him are irresponsible.”
The bypolls in the Western UP are the immediate target.
But As an upbeat Congress works to re-capture a stronghold in UP, Maya is perhaps worried that Rahul Gandhi's work among Dalits might wean away their votes from the BSP.
