New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati celebrated her 53 rd birthday with a dig at the opposition. To get even with her detractors, the BSP supremo chose to address the press and partymen and spewed out anger about allegations levelled at her.
After courting controversy when a party official allegedly killed a PWD engineer who refused funds for her birthday bash, Mayawati has become extra cautious.
Mayawati called the opposition's claims about the death of PWD Engineer Manoj Gupta by BSP MLA Shekhar Tewari as a political conspiracy against BSP.
"I wish to inform the opposition parties that on the ocassion of my birthday they have stooped low and indulged in various dramas to exhibit lowly political games. To spite these opposition parties and to strengthen me further my partymen have gathered twice the amount of donations acquired every year on my birthday," Mayawati read out from a prepared speech.
When it comes to collecting funds, this ambitious politician never forgets her ultimate goal. “Unlike other parties, my party does not take money from big industrialists but bank upon donations from the common man,” she said.
The success of Dalit-Brahmin experiment in UP must have made Mayawati politically powerful but greater access to funds came her way after Vashiya leaders with deep pockets joined BSP.
There is a clear instruction to party coordinators to collect at least Rs 3 lakh from each of the 400 Assembly segments.
The BSP has clearly become the common enemy to Congress and Samajwadi Party, who have decided stage protests against Maya on Thursday.
Party workers have been asked to give receipts for every contribution and also distribute money among the poor.
