Mayawati government suspends five more cops

CNN-IBN

Lucknow: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government in Uttar Pradesh has suspended five more police officers allegedly involved in the police recruitment scam during the Samajwadi Party's rule.

The government has already suspended 22 police officers and cancelled more than 7,400 appointments. It has said a fresh recruitment drive will be held within six months.

An investigating committee appointed by UP Chief Minister Mayawati has charged at least 13 top police officials with irregularities in the recruitment of around 22,000 policemen during 2005-06.

The committee has said many answer scripts had been wrongly evaluated.

But that’s not it. The committee also says it has heard charges of sexual harassment from several women police aspirants

“I feel ashamed to say that most of the female candidates had to undergo sexual harassment,” says ADG, UP Police, Shailja Kant Mishra.
