Chennai: Is gender important in the journey to stardom on television? No says Rose, who is following the footsteps of Pakistan's Begum Nawazish Ali. Rose will become India's first transgender in the country to host a television show.
“I am really excited. This is a dream come true for me. I have dreamt of doing this for months now and finally it’s happening, that too in such a big way. I'm thrilled,” Rose said.
Twenty-eight-year-old Rose will work in a Tamil channel, Star Vijay, which is launching Ipadiku Rose, a late night talk show that will be focus on social issues.
“Rose's show will deal with issues which relate to the society. Mostly social issues but it will be presented in a light and jovial manner. And Rose is perfect to handle it because of her personality,” Programming Head, Star Vijay, Pradeep Milroy Peter said.
A software consultant, Rose struggled initially to establish herself. In fact, her family is still not comfortable with her identity. However, Rose feels that the media is the best medium to spread her message.
“I want to be a role model for others in my community. Set an example for others to follow and also to inspire families of transgenders,” Rose said, adding that she hopes the discussions on the show will help open up people's minds and remove taboos from society.
As of now, the channel has planned 26 episodes of the serial, which will be aired on weekends this December.
